Activities at the Nanotech Forum Nagano
Utilizing the results of the Intellectual Cluster implemented in Nagano Prefecture and influencing the knowledge potential of pertinent university departments, the Nanotech Forum Nagano facilitates a variety of interaction between private firms and researchers. These interactions include encouraging informational, research and technical exchange through coordination of activities, promotion of industry-academia and industry-industry collaborations as well as support of technology and product development.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Human Network Creation
- Facilitated by the utilization of networks and web sites of private firms, researchers, students and other pertinent organizations.
- Organization of activities to assist in interaction among young researchers.
Improvement of Collaboration Infrastructure / Provision, sharing and Utilization of Information
- Providing interaction among members at the Incubation Plaza
- Facilitation of the use of facilities supporting the government-industry-academia collaboration.
- Assembling joint conferences presenting research findings and participating in nationwide exhibitions.
Development and Commercialization of New Products
- Provide support through the Nanotechnology Monotzukuri Workshop.
- Support launch and operation of projects for developing new products.
Human Resource Development
- Organization of the Nanotechnology Super College and the Nanotechnology Practical College.
- Organization of the Strategic Leaders for New Businesses College.
Skill Enhancement Meeting
- Holding lectures and information exchange sessions for highly motivated members to facilitate the commercialization of results from the Intellectual Cluster Initiative.

Regional Spread of Partnership with Other Clusters and Regions
Shinetsu High-Tech Corridor Plan
With the Nanotech Forum Nagano and the Niigata Nanotech Group as leaders, private firms, universities and public research institutions in Nagano and Niigata Prefectures have combined efforts to organize government-industry-academia collaboration as well as promote human resource development.
Partnership with the Industrial Cluster Project
To strengthen the partnership between the Knowledge Cluster Initiative and the Industrial Cluster Project, joint meetings have been convened to present research findings. Efforts have also been generated for the promotion of industry-industry and industry-academia alliances for applied research and commercialization.
Industry-Academia Alliance with Tokyo University of Science
Based on a partnership agreement reached in June 2004, the Nagano Techno Foundation and the Tokyo University of Science have cooperated to create new industries. These joint efforts include the determination of the private firm in Nagano that matches best with a research group at the university, and the organization of industry-academia exchange forums.
Partnership with Neighboring Universities
Various industry-academia exchange meetings have been made available for private firms, universities and research institutions in and out of Nagano Prefecture. The purpose of these meetings is for collection of data on research groups and examination of the best research group/development need thereby creating new industries.
Utilization of Facilities Supporting Government-Industry-Academia Alliances
A variety of collaborative government-industry-academia projects for product commercialization have been completed employing the University Factory of Nagano (UFO) and the Asama Research Extension center (AREC). Both of these facilities have been established on Shinshu University's campus.
